Circa 1780-1815. This type of pistol would have been used by the French cavalry, army and navy during the Napoleonic wars. The lock plate is marked Manuf. Imp. De Charleville, (engraving now very faint). Standard military brass butt-cap, trigger-guard, side-plate and fore-end cap. 8 inch steel barrel. Original steel ramrod. The brass side-plate marked A.T and a crown over R. Overall length 14 inches. Crisp action. This is the standard French military pistol that was carried by Napoleon's officers during the Napoleonic wars and at the battle of Waterloo in 1815. A small hole has been put into the wooden stock just above the trigger, the pistol showing some signs of genuine use, otherwise in good condition overall. Ref 1244.
