A super pair of good Quality French Naval officers all brass Flintlock Blunderbuss Pistols of the American Revolutionary war era. Manufactured in France circa 1760-1780. The barrels each engraved underneath with an anchor and the original ship's name "Vengeur Du Peuple Toulon".

    The Vengeur du Peuple was a 74 gun ship of the line of the French navy. Funded by a donation from the chamber of commerce of Marseille. She was launched in 1762 as the Marseillois. This ship took part in various naval operations of the American Revolutionary war in Admiral d'Estaing's squadron, duelling against the British ship HMS Preston in a single-ship action on 11 August 1778, taking part in the Battle of the Chesapeake where she fought HMS Intrepid and supporting flagship Ville de Paris at the Battle of the Saintes 9th-12th April 1782. The barrels are approx 4 inches in length. The pistols are 8 inches overall. Some decoration to the side-plates. Both actions are very crisp and in full working condition. A superb pair of Revolutionary war period flintlock Naval officer's pistols with a known history. Ref 8004. This is an obsolete antique pistol and is sold as a collectors item only.
