Circa 1860-1870. Engraved on the 4 inch barrel "BACON MFG. CO. NORWICH. CONN. The barrel pivots to the right for loading. Iron frame and two piece wooden grips. These spur trigger derringers were made as “hideout” guns for men and women alike in all walks of life, but the prostitutes out West found them to be ideal for their self-protection. Many women of the night in the wild West kept small pistols handy in their beds, or next to their beds, to protect themselves from the hazards of their profession. If she was well enough endowed and wore a tight chemise, she could slip one of these little pistols in her cleavage. Some strapped them against their thighs with a garter. Others carried them in fitted holsters hung on a small belt. Good crisp action. In good condition showing some signs of use and wear. Ref 1534. This is an obsolete antique pistol and is sold as a collectors item only. No Licence is required in the United Kingdom.
