A very scarce brass hilted hunting hanger or short sword from the era of the American Revolutionary war. Circa 1775-1783. This sword is possibly American manufactured using an older British blade as it has remains of the running fox mark on the blade. Brass knuckle guard and quillon, fluted brass shell guard, and turned brass pommel. Still retaining its original cylindrical shaped wooden grip. The single edged slightly curved blade approx 26.5 inches long. Blade with very little wear or use. Generally in very good condition. Nice period patina to the brass. A very good authentic piece from the U.S. Revolutionary war era. Overall length approx 31.5 inches. Ref 1280.
