A scarce brass hilted British Grenadier hanger circa 1750-1770 manufactured just before the era of the American Revolutionary war circa 1775-1783. The blade stamped with the Board of Ordnance marking (B.O.) as well as the makers name T. Craven. This sword is British manufactured during the period 1750-1770. Solid brass grip and two bar knuckle guard. Single edged slightly curved blade struck with the British broad arrow mark. Brass knuckle-bow, solid brass heart shaped shell guard and turned brass pommel. Nice period patina to the brass. A very good authentic piece dating from the era of the Napoleonic wars as well as around the time of the U.S. Revolutionary war era, with the added interest of it being manufactured in Great Britain during the period just before the American Revolutionary War. For an almost identical sword please see plate 10 SS on page 307 in George C. Neumann's fine book "BATTLE WEAPONS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION" published 1998. Blade length 25 inches.
