A fabulous cavalry sword of the Napoleonic period, this pattern sword was originally carried by the tall and fierce Cuirassiers of Napoléon's Grand Armee and was the same pattern cavalry sword carried before and during the battle of Waterloo in June 1815. This particular example has the early iron hilt. Complete in its original steel scabbard with two hanging rings. No visible markings. The 38 inch blade with the early hatchet point. There are no date markings to the back edge as this blade pre-dates when the date marks first started to appear. A highly desirable and rare cavalry sword. The grip wire and leather are replaced, some pitting to the scabbard, otherwise in very reasonable condition. Overall length in scabbard is 46 inches.
