American Soldier’s Private Purchase WW2 2nd Pattern Fairbairn Sykes FS Fighting Knife By Wilkinson Sword With Etched Panels & Banner To ‘18157516 Warren K Horne’ (PFC U.S. Army 101st Airborne ‘Screaming Eagles’) Scabbard & Image The Soldier’s Grave - 17920

2nd Pattern Fairbairn Sykes 'FS' Fighting Knives were introduced in 1941. Examples with etched blades are illustrated in Chapter 7 of The Fairbairn Sykes Fighting Knife & Other Commando Knives By Flook. American & Canadian special forces soldiers & Officers bought FS fighting knives as private purchase weapons. Examples of named, etched blades are illustrated on pages 96 & 97 of Flook’s book. This example has a knurled 2nd pattern brass hilt and blued oval cross guard. One side of the hilt has a small stable chip (a great deal of force would be required to cause the chip which could possibly be shrapnel battle damage). It has an undamaged 160mm blade with medial ridge & etched panels. One side ‘Wilkinson Sword London’ with crossed swords legend. The reverse ‘The FS Fighting Knife’. One side of the blade has a crisp etched & blued scrolling banner with name and service number ‘Warren K Horne 18157516’. An image of the Soldier’s grave stone accompanies the dagger. The head stone is inscribed ‘ Warren K Horne PFC (Private 1st Class) US Army World War II Apr 18 1929 Sep 7 1997 101st Airborne’ (The 101st Airborne Division ("Screaming Eagles") is a light infantry division of the United States Army specializing in air assault operations. The pathfinders of the 101st Airborne Division led the way on D-Day in the night drop before the invasion and saw much action during and after the Invasion. The dagger is complete with original leather scabbard with blued external chape and single belt loop. It retains its 4 sewn on leather tabs and as is common is without its elasticated retaining strap. All leather & stitching are intact. The price for this rare item worthy of further research regarding the Soldier’s WW2 service includes UK delivery. Sn 17920
