It has a good double edged blade length 16 inches. Plain wooden carved grip with finely chased brass mounts and cross-guard. Wood scabbard covered with a wood effect lacquer, and matching brass mounts with two hanging rings. Overall length in scabbard 23 inches. Some scabbard covering missing, otherwise in good condition with good age patina. Ref 1769.

    A number of these Chinese swords were brought back to the United Kingdom by service men returning from the opium wars in the mid 19th century. Some were also brought back as souvenirs after the Boxer rebellion of 1898-1900.
