Made to hold approx 100 percussion caps this was almost certainly made on the continent in the 19th century. Probably French. Size approx 4 x 1.5 inches. It is made of brass and has a serial number 115 stamped on the sideplate. There is a circular lock and button that holds the capper in the closed position or open for loading. A sping loaded lever on the back operated with the thumb or finger allows the caps to escape one at a time to be placed upon the percussion nipple. There is a steel spring at the opening to control the flow of caps. The top is hinged at one end, it also has a brass carrying ring attached. This is a rare and very well made item for the serious antique gun collector. No makers name visible. Good condition. Ref 8121.
