ANCIENT 14th / 15th CENTURY BLADE GREAT MASTERS MASAMUNE & SADAMUNE FORM HITATSURA (All Over) HAMON, Japanese Soshu School Wakizashi One Hand Short Sword With 1650-1700 Pierced Iron Tsuba, 19th Century Mounts, Scabbard & Expert Assessment Notes. ED 2497 - ED 2497

This Japanese Wakizashi with ancient blade has been examined by UK Japanese sword expert Bill Tagg and a copy of his assessment notes accompany this sword. In extracts from his assessment he states “An ancient blade unsigned Wakizashi in 19th century mounts, good iron tsuba (Tsukashi) pierced dating to at least 1650-1700. It has had an insert put in to stop it rattling, has not damaged it. Handle mounts are 19th century soft metal. No menuki fitted to hilt. The blade has been cut down from a katana in antiquity and has 4 (ana) mounting holes , 1 lead plugged). This is a sign of great age and use. The cutting edge is now 18” length. It has a full length groove (Hi) and Hamon called Hitatsura (Practically All Over), very complicated which is edged in nie crystals formed at very high temperature. This is a sign osf Soshu (school) work. This hamon was used by the great 14th Century Masters Masamune & Sadamune. It could easily be a 14th / 15th Century blade It is in bright healthy condition but needs proper polish to bring out its beauty. It would need sending to japan to identify its exact age & maker. Recommended, a quality blade”. The lacquered wood scabbard is undamaged and slotted for Kozuka small knife (absent). The price for this Wakizashi worthy of further research and professional polish includes UK delivery. ED 2497
