Auguste Francotte & Co was a Liege gunmaker. His company was founded in 1810 and was most active between 1860 and 1914. It had premises at Rue Mont Saint Martin 61, in Liege. The Company made weapons based on other manufacturers designs. This is a Belgian Liege 6 shot large closed frame 12mm Lefaucheux patent double action pin fire revolver by Francotte made C1870, number 114411. It has a 4” octagonal barrel signed by the retailer “Bertonnet en Buenos-Ayres”. One barrel flat is signed “E.LEFAUCHEUX INVR. BREVETE”. The barrel has open sights and its rifled bore has just staining consistent with age and use. The frame and cylinder have Francotte’s “AF” mark. The cylinder has Liege ELG* proof. It has a captive ejector rod on the right, the cylinder, frame and trigger guard have ornate deep cut foliate tooled decoration. The walnut grips have chequered panels and the butt has military lanyard ring. The weapon’s cocking and firing actions work correctly in both single and double action. The price includes UK delivery.
