Australian Lithgow 1907 Pattern 1944 Dated Bayonet And Scabbard. BAYO 554 - BAYO 554
This is an Australian, WW2 1944 dated Pattern 1907 bayonet for the SMLE rifle complete with scabbard. The blade of the bayonet is stamped by the manufacturer MA 1907 (the code for Lithgow) and 8 ?4 (August 1944), the first 4 being indistinctly stamped. The other side of the blade carries broad arrows and OA inspection stamp including an X which is a bend test mark which signified that the blade steel temper was within specification. The wooden grips are stamped SLAZ52 (Slazenger Sports Goods, 1952) denoting the bayonet was re-furbished in 1952. The blade retains all of its bluing and the crossguard, grips and pommel retain some of its khaki paint obviously when used in the desert. The scabbard is the standard No1 Mk2 with the round frog stud. This bayonet is carried in a 1942 dated webbing frog.
