Lieutenant Colonel TERSSEN E.J.B served with the Belgian artillery. He became director of the State GUN Factory, rue Saint Léonard in LIEGE. In 1867, he registered two Belgian patents for:- a locking system for breech loading firearms & Modifications made to the locking system for breech loading firearms. His rifles were issued to the Belgian army. The American Springfield Armoury converted some of these rifles to .58 Rimfire & .50-70 Centre Fire calibre for use in the USA. This is an original Belgian Terssen Model 1868 Military 11mm Obsolete Calibre Trap Door Back Action Rifle. It has all original wood & metal work. The wood has just knocks, bumps and bruises to be expected and has a contemporary repair to the lower section of the shoulder stock which is secure. It measures 53 ½” overall with a 33 ½” steel barrel which has a near mint bore with crisp rifling. The weapon is fitted with block and blade fore sight, graduated 300-500 metres flip up rear sight. It also has a steel butt plate, sling swivels fitted with leather sling, steel fore end block, bayonet lug and steel ram rod. The barrel has inspection marks, ‘1868’ model designation and is numbered ‘E2095’ which is repeated on the butt plate tang, action and cleaning rod. The breech cover is numbered ‘R500’ and has small inspection marks. The weapon’s loading, cocking and firing actions work perfectly. The price includes UK delivery.
