English, Booth Huddersfield 54 Bore Percussion Pocket Pistol With Turn Off Barrel. Sn 18134 - 18134

Henry Booth (b.1838 ) was the son of Gunsmith William Golden (born 801 in Sherborne, Dorset). His sons Edward (b.1835), Henry Booth (b.1838), and Joseph (b.1839) worked for their father). William established his business as an ironmonger in 1833 at 2 & 3 Cross Church Street, Huddersfield (the shops were on opposite sides of the street).Henry Booth Golden described himself as a mill furnisher and gunsmith in the 1901 census, he died in 1902 but the firm appears to have continued trading in guns until about 1905 when that side of the business was bought by Carr Brothers of Huddersfield. Carr Brothers ceased trading in 1914. This is a nice percussion pocket pistol by Booth Huddersfield. It is 6” overall with a 1 ¾” screw off barrel (a tool is required to unscrew the barrel). The barrel’s smooth bore has residue and staining consistent with age and use. It has impressed black powder proofs on the underside of the action & barrel. The action has foliate engraved decoration and is signed on one side ‘Booth’. The reverse marked ‘Huddersfield’. The trigger guard is decorated with a stylised star mark. The action works as it should with a strong spring action and has a steel safety bolt. The bag shaped walnut grip is undamaged. The price includes UK delivery. NB As an antique percussion pistol no licence is required to own this item in the UK if retained as a part of a collection or display. Sn 18134
