~ British 1888 Mark II 2nd Pattern Lee Metford Bayonet ~
This is a 2nd MK2 Pattern Lee-Metford manufactured from 1888 for the British .303 service rifle.
Most of these bayonets were used in the Boer War and the First World War.
The blade is stamped on one side of the ricasso ‘9. 95’ (made in September 1895) and the other side bears a number of British proof marks and inspector’s marks and ‘15’ meaning that it was reissued for service in ‘1915’.
~ Dimensions ~
The blade length is 12 inches (30.48 cm) and the overall length of it is 16.5 inches (41.91 cm).
It weighs 425 grams.
~ Condition ~
The blade aged and developed some surface pitting.
The guard has minor surface rust.
The grips remain excellent.
The safety catch works fine.
