British 1888 Mark II, 2nd pattern, Lee Metford Bayonet, Scabbard And Frog. Sn ED 2396 - ED 2196
This is an early Edwardian, Lee Metford, 1888 Mark II second pattern bayonet manufactured for the British .303 calibre Enfield, Lee Metford Rifle which were issued to British and allied forces during the Boer war and WW1. The Bayonet blade which is in good clean condition with original polish, is 12" in length, double edged and unfullered with a medial ridge running from the ricasso to the blade tip. The ricasso of the blade is also marked '11’ 01' (manufactured November 1901) together with ER and 'Flat Top' Crown ( Edward Rex ). The reverse is nicely stamped with the broard arrow over EFD (Enfield), a crown over 9 over E and a X . The grips are of wood, held together with two brass rivets. There is an oil clearance hole in both of the grips. The pommel carries a letter N below the oil hole on one side and a number 3 over L followed by 167 . The bayonet is contained in its correct black leather Mk 1 scabbard, the mouth which has 25 stamped on it. See Skennerton, pages 168 and 169. Price includes UK delivery. Sn. ED 2196
