A British Army Pattern 1903 Sword Bayonet, with metal pommel, wood grips, muzzle ring and a straight spear point blade.
A very interesting and hard to find piece, this is an 1888 pattern bayonet converted in the field. The 1903 pattern had a very short service life of only four years (1903-1907) and not many examples survived.
It has a regimental mark on the pommel 290 RE and 24, so for the Royal Engineers, and various military stamps on the ricasso. The scabbard is of leather and steel.
