British Brown Bess Socket Bayonet And Scabbard. BAYO 570 - BAYO 570
This is a British socket bayonet for the Brown Bess musket and is fitted with a post 1860 modification locking ring. The bayonet is similar to item 127 in the Indian section of Skennerton, on pages 328 and 329. Many of the earlier land pattern bayonets were converted with the modification of a locking ring but as the original dimensions were retained, it can only be concluded that this bayonet was intended for use on the early style of musket converted to percussion. The ricasso has a stamp of a large letter S on it which probably stands for S Hill. The scabbard is brass mounted brown leather. See also The Brown Bess Bayonet by Graham Priest. The socket bayonet has a 14 3/8” long blade. Price includes UK delivery. BAYO 570
