~ British Circa 1785 Flintlock Cavalry Carbine ~
This is a well preserved carbine with brass fittings, most probably a private purchase piece.
Its lock plate is stamped ‘Egg’ and the top of the barrel has three British proof marks.
The left side is fitted with a steel bar to attach to a saddle.
The stock is of walnut and the original ramrod is present.
~ Dimensions ~
The barrel length is 22 inches (56 cm) and the overall length of the carbine is 37.8 inches (96 cm). The bore is three quarters of an inch.
~ Condition ~
The lock mechanism is clean, the barrel with some areas of light bruising and very tidy brass work. It half cocks, cocks and releases with a moderate spring.
The stock has a crack forward and above the lockplate and another one on the left side around the forward pin.
A rare piece.
