WW1 Era British Field Made Tree Branch Nail Spiked Trench Fighting Club Mounted With Herefordshire & Northamptonshire Regiment Metal Cap Badges & Fitted With Leather Wrist Cord. MISC 885 - MISC 885

During WW1 Military Units on both sides improvised their own trench warfare weapons which they saw as being of more use than issued weapons, when fighting hand to hand. This is an original, WW1 British Trench Club. The club field made from a section of tree branch measures 23” overall length. The head of the wood is studded with heavy duty iron nails. The wood has all the patina of a field made weapon of this age, no damage and no woodworm. All nails have just light surface rust to be expected but are secure. The shaft is mounted with 2 period metal British Regiment cap badges, one of the Herefordshire Regiment (in the First World War elements of the Regiment landed at Suvla Bay in Gallipoli in August 1915, and then having been evacuated in December 1915, transferred to Egypt. They were redeployed to the Western Front in June 1918). The other badge is of the Northamptonshire Regiment (at the outbreak of WW1 elements of the Regiment landed at Le Havre as part of 2nd Brigade in the 1st Division in August 1914 for service on the Western Front). The butt end of the wood shaft has an iron ring fitted with later leather wrist cord. The price for this hard to find reminder of the brutal nature of trench warfare includes UK delivery. MISC 885
