LONDON. These famous .70 calibre heavy military pistols were manufactured for service during and before the time of the Crimean war circa 1853 - 1856. This example is engraved on the lock-plate "E. LONDON, London". Edward London had a workshop at London Wall, in the first half of the 19th century. This company appears to have had a fairly long history in gun-making. There was an Edward London, gun maker of London Wall back in 1734, who appeared as a witness in an attempted murder case. In 1838 there is record of Edward London, gun maker of 51 London Wall, insured with the sun insurance company. Some minor dings to the woodwork, otherwise in reasonably good condition. Fitted with its correct steel swivel ramrod. Action in good working condition. Some wear but a nice honest example of a Crimean war era British military pistol. Barrel stamped with British proof marks, barrel length 9 inches. Overall length 15 inches. Ref 1718. This is an obsolete antique item and is sold as a collectors item only. No Licence is required in the United Kingdom. If you wish to purchase this item please visit our website andrewbottomley.com where you can pay by credit/debit card or bank transfer. Established 1968.
