This is one of the Z2E1 trials bayonets that has had the blade reground making it 10mm shorter than the normal length. Skennerton shows one as item B 318 and states that although there are some claims that these were a shorter version, it is more likely that some suffered damage to the points and at a later stage were reground to make them saleable on the commercial market. All other features remain the same as the standard bayonet. This bayonet carries the X2E1 designation stamped underneath the tang along with a serial number 7290. The catch on the pommel is the larger version and the steel scabbard is correctly marked to the mouthpiece with X1E1. See Skennerton item B318 on Pages 256 and 257.
