    Complete British Victorian Court Uniform, Mint Court Dress Sword By Phillips & Co With Scabbard In Japanned Transit Locker 'JD Peddie Esq MP'. Sn 12689 - 12689

    John Dick Peddie (24 February 1824 – 12 March 1891) was a Scottish architect, businessman and a Liberal Party politician. Peddie was a very successful architect winning numerous commissions for churches and public buildings, including the municipal buildings in Aberdeen (1856) and branches of the Bank of Scotland. This his Court dress uniform with Victorian court sword & scabbard. The dress tail coat in rich navy blue material has bullion adornments and retains all of its original brass Queen’s Crown buttons. The coat and waistcoat are approx. UK size 36” chest. The navy blue trousers has bullion taped legs. The trousers are approx. UK size 32” waist & 31” leg length. The bicorn hat is in near mint condition with Queens Crown button and braid and silk lining. It is approx. UK size 7 . The sword is near mint and has etched panels. The ricasso is marked by the manufacturer Phillips & Co (illustrated). The hilt is fitted with original bullion cord and portepee. The leather scabbard with brass fittings is in similar mint condition. The sword is accompanied by its original cloth sword belt with brass buckle and oil cloth transit cover. The coat, trousers and waistcoat have age staining and wear to the linings but the hat, sword and scabbard are near mint. None of the pieces have any mothing. All of the pieces are contained in their original japanned transit locker which has a hinged lid, bolt fasteners and carry handle. The tin is undamaged and has an internal paper outfitters label (illustrated). The top of the locker has a plate engraved ‘JD Peddie Esq MP’ and an embossed outfitters plate (all illustrated).
