RARE, Original Collection Of WW2 Era British Women’s Transport Service (WTS FANY) Uniform All To ‘FANY E.J. Webber W/60454’. Service Tunic, Cap, Belt, Skirt, Battledress Blouson & Beret. Sn 11272 - 11272

The history of The British Women’s Transport Service (FANY) is of unusual interest, for it has been in continuous existence since 1909 and its members were the first women, other than nurses, to serve with the British Army. It was originally called the First Aid Nursing Yeomanry and is still better known by the initials of this title F.A.N.Y. The first FANYs were recruited to do various forms of medical transport work, and were also prepared to follow the Army on horseback to render first aid to the wounded. In the First World War, they were one of the first women’s organizations to go overseas. Those who were with them in the Second World War served with distinction in all theatres of combat and lived up to their motto ‘I Cope’. This is a rare to find, excellent, original WW2 Era Uniform all issued to one FANY ‘E.J. Webber W/60454’. The Uniform has several elements all clean with just light service wear consistent with age and use. The Uniform consists of her khaki Service Tunic with 4 pockets, bronze ‘FANY’ buttons and collar badges. The Tunic is lined and has a nice label ‘Ross 227 High St Exeter’. The Tunic is a small Ladies size. Her khaki service cap complete with leather chin strap (cap badge absent), Her khaki service skirt with 2 front pockets and side zip fastener again a small Ladies size. Brown Leather Sam Browne Type belt with brass buckle and stud fastener. The inside of the belt is marked ‘E.J. Webber W/60454’, Her battle dress blouson tunic/ jacket with ‘Womens Transport Service FANY’ embroidered shoulder patches (illustrated inset in image 2). The left breast pocket button of the jacket is absent. The inside of the jacket has a very faint washed out label. FANY Webber’s name and service number are visible together with ‘Blouson Battledress Size N0.5’. Other detail is unreadable. Finally her khaki service beret with FANY brass cap badge on a field of red cloth. The beret has ventilation holes and the crown has a manufacturer’s label which is faint but readable ‘Official WTS FANY Scott & Co Piccadilly W’ together with Royal Appointment. The beret is a small size. Price for this nice collection of WW2 Uniform worthy of further research includes UK delivery. Sn 11272
