    BSA Long Lee Mk1 .22LR 1897

This is a rare 1897 Long Lee convertion to .22 and is in great condition for a 121 year old rifle. The rifle started out as a .303 and was converted to .22LR for troop training. The Long Lee Enfield was declared obsolete in 1905 once the problems with the Number 1 Mk1 SMLE were sorted out and went into full production (1904).

The rifle is 49.3/4″ long, overall. That means the barrel is a full 30.3/8″ long. The trigger pull is around 11lb's and like all Long lee's it has one trigger pull unlike the SMLE which has two.

The conversion must have been done between 1897 and 1905 as after that date the SMLE were converted to .22 and the ConD 2 (converted long lee's) and were in the factory conversion program of 1905.

This rifle was manufactured by BSA in 1897 in .303 to the run up to the South African Bore war which had been on and off for a few years.

There are no marks to indicate it was in South Africa but with so many troops and rifles going to that war, it is very likely this rifle did go . This rifle was too new to be in put into the War Reserve stock and we understand that at that time that the Martin Henry .303 was in war reserve.

The full length stock is in superb condition with a butt stock which would not look amiss on a classic English side by side. It is a grained lightly figured English walnut and the butt plate is the brass type with butt trap and extended tang for regimental markings.

This BSA Long Lee is from a world long gone, made to the highest quality engineering standards
