The gunsmith William Parker (1722-1841) is recorded as having premises at various premises in London between 1793 & 1841 including 233 High Holborn, Chamber Street and Glass House yard. His Sons continued the business after his death in 1841 and the company later became the prestigious Parker Field, makers of quality firearms and edged weapons, many of which were supplied to the British Military & Police (see page 190 of Browns book ‘British Gunmakers Volume 1’ ). This is a quality William Parker of Holborn London Percussion Overcoat Pistol nipple and drum converted from flintlock. It is a sturdy, heavy pistol, 8 ½” overall length with a 4”, smooth bore. The bore has just staining and residue consistent with age & use. The barrel is signed ‘W.Parker Holborn’. The stock is made from rich English Walnut with steel furniture and has a chequered panel grip. It has its original wood ram rod with horn end cap and steel worm. The lock is engraved 'W.Parker' amongst foliate tooled decoration and the action with heavy Dolphin hammer and foliate engraved decoration works crisply. The action has a safety bolt which operates at half cock. The barrel has a gold band, the drum conversion has a silver roundel insert and the back of the wrist is inlaid with white metal escutcheon which is engraved with family crest and stylised monogram. This is an excellent piece. The price includes UK delivery. NB. As an antique percussion pistol no licence is required to own this item in the UK if retained as a part of a collection or display. **This item is from the life time military collection that belonged to Captain Allan Marshall. Marshall was a Captain with the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers and on retirement went onto be a respected local huntsman, historian and nature expert, writing for the Rochdale Observer for over 40 years. With his love of history he amassed a collection of historical, military arms and armour related items and was known for his noted collection of Lancashire Fusillers Insignia. On his death in 2012 his collection was passed to his son Mr Jeremy Marshall who also took over the family business ‘Towers of Rochdale’ which was established in the early 1900s and sold guns and country pursuit items. Jeremy was a prominent figure in the firearms industry and adviser to some government and business agencies but sadly passed away in November 2020. He had continued adding to his late father’s military collection with some quite unique items** Sn 18639
