The WW2 1st Type MK 2 fighting knives issued to the U.S.N. (United States Navy) has a heavy steel pommel secured by a threaded nut at the butt. The 1st type MK2 was only in service for a short period and was soon replaced by the 2nd type which had a pommel secured by steel pin (see page 86 of ‘U.S Military Knives by Cole’. 1st type MK2 knives are very rare. This is an excellent original example of the 1st type WW2 U.S. Navy MK 2 Fighting Knife made by Camillus in its scabbard. The grip is constructed of the correct compressed laminated leather washers with correct 1st type steel pommel secured at the butt by threaded nut. The hilt is clean and undamaged condition. It has a steel cross guard and a 7" parkerised bowie blade. The cross guard is crisply stamped, "U.S.N." and the reverse with manufacturer details "CAMILLUS N.Y.". It is complete with its original early leather scabbard with belt loop and retaining strap with working brass press stud fastener. It is stamped on the front 'USN'.
