The Royal Green Jackets were formed on 1 January 1966. During the 1980s, they were deployed to various parts of Northern Ireland (Operation Banner). The Regiment's greatest loss of life came on 20 July 1982 when seven RGJ bandsmen were killed by a Provisional Irish Republican Army bomb which exploded during a public concert. After reorganisation in 1982, the RGJ were mostly based overseas and saw action in Bosnia and Kosovo during the Yugoslav Wars. Elements of the RGJ served on Operation Telic 2 in Iraq. On 1st February 2007 the RGJ formed merged with other Regiments to become ‘The Rifles’. This is a cased 3rd Pattern Commemorative Fairbairn Sykes fighting knife produced to commemorate the Royal Green Jackets. The knife has an undamaged alloy ribbed handle and cross guard which has much of its original gilt wash finish present. It has a 7” double edged dagger steel blade with medial ridge. One side of the blade is etched within scrolls ‘Royal green Jackets’ together with Regiment badge and other side etched with the representation of an RGJ Soldier & War Dept Broad arrow. The ricasso is marked by the manufacturer ‘FE & JR Hopkinson Ltd Sheffield England’ with Shield trademark. The dagger is contained in its original wooden case. The case has a hinged lid and 2 clasp fasteners. The inside of the case is lined with maroon felt & white silk. It is contoured to snugly fit the dagger. Price includes UK delivery. Sn 12761
