C1830 English Catchpool (Catchpole) 60 Bore Brass Flintlock Pocket Pistol With Turn Off Barrel & Folding Trigger. Sn 17583 - 17583
This is an excellent brass flintlock pocket pistol made C1830. The pistol has a steel hammer and frizzen. The brass frame is signed by the maker ‘Catchpool’ on one side (most likely John Catchpole Dedham Essex recorded as working as a gunmaker in 1831, see page 188 of Brown’s book British Gunmakers Vol.2). The reverse has faint foliate engraved decoration. The pistol measures 6 ¼” overall & has a 2” screw off brass barrel (a tool is required to turn off the barrel. We do not have the tool). The barrel’s smooth bore is clean. The pistol has a concealed folding trigger & crisp London black powder proofs on the underside of the action. The pistol has an undamaged bag shape walnut stock. The pistol’s action is strong. The price includes UK delivery. NB No licence is required to own this antique flintlock pistol in the UK if retained as part of a collection or display. Sn 17583
