~ Circa 1630’s English Civil War Period Walloon Sword ~
Here we have an incredibly rare sword from the early 1600’s and most famously used during both the English Civil War and the 30 Years War, a Walloon.
The Walloon is a sword that is half way between a medieval arming sword and a modern military broadsword, the blade is a double edged long fuller broadsword with a beautifully complex grip comprising of two shell guards, a thumb ring and a pair of bars going from the shells to the pommel.
These swords are a brilliant transitional piece, showing the midpoint between the late renaissance and the modern professional armies swords.
~ Dimensions ~
The sword is 40 inches (102 cm) long.
The blade is 34.5 inches (88 cm) long.
The sword weighs 1.01Kg.
~ Condition ~
The sword is in fantastic condition for its age with an even patina all over and with almost no signs of wear to the sword. The grip has shrunk due to the wood dehydrating but that dehydration has most likely saved the rest of the sword.
