~ Circa 1840 Model of an Armstrong Cannon ~
This is an excellent signalling cannon, an accurate replica of a shore defence 18th pounder artillery piece.
The cannon entirely is made of brass.
The carriage has been fitted with four small wheels but is sited on two transversal wooden supports (as it will be in times of peace, in order to take the weight from the wheels, and protect them in this way).
The elevation system is present too, making the carriage even more accurate.
~ Dimensions ~
The cannon is 10 ½ inches (27 cm) long.
The carriage is 5 inches (13 cm) wide by 6 ¼ (16 cm) long and 2 ¾ inches (7 cm) tall.
With the cannon mounted the overall height of the piece is 4 inches (10 cm).
It weighs 3.31 Kg.
~ Condition ~
The cannon is excellent with a nice clear bore.
The carriage is in very good condition, as can be seen in the pictures.
The woodwork remains free of damage, with minimum wear and age to it.
The two safety bars that keep the trunions in place are loose. One is missing its loops completely and the other is only missing the back one. A problem easy to solve though.
~ Postage ~
UK postage is £28 or it can be picked up from our shop in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.
