~ Circa 1915 Mle 1886/16 Lebel Epee Bayonet with German Silver Grip ~
This is the bayonet of the famous Mle1886 M.93 'Lebel', cal. 8x50R rifle, the world's first smokeless powder military rifle.
There were few versions of the bayonet used on this rifle. The first pattern had the hook quillion, which was often cut by the troops.
This is the second pattern which had the quillion removed but kept the German silver grips.
The bayonet comes in a original metal scabbard stamped with serial number “C389”.
The blade is stamped with the maker’s initials “J.C.”
The guard is stamped with serial number “C27741”.
~ Dimensions ~
The blade length is 20.5 inches (52 cm) and the overall length of the bayonet is 25 inches (63 cm).
The length of the bayonet in its scabbard is 25.7 inches (65 cm).
~ Condition ~
This is a fine example of a well preserved WW1 French bayonet. The metalwork darkened from due to its age.
The blade is free of rust or nicks.
It's sprung muzzle ring catch with knurled button works perfectly
The silver grip has minimum signs of wear.
The scabbard has age wear and developed some pitting and surface rust on the grip end.
