Late Victorian / Boer War Era British Cogswell & Harrison 141 New Bond St & 226 Strand(London) Folding Bowie Knife With Stag Antler Scales, Brass Cross Guard, Release Button & Open Top Leather Scabbard. Sn 18034 - 18034

Cogswell & Harrison were established in May 1770 and is London’s oldest surviving gun maker. The company has manufactured an exceptionally diverse range of sporting edged weapons, shotguns and rifles during its long and colourful history. In 2008 the company was purchased by the Brennan family, the proprietors of Ardee Sports Company. This is an excellent folding Bowie Knife by Cogswell & Harrison. This form of folding Bowie were popular Boer War British Officer's private purchase weapons. It is 10 ¼” overall length when closed. The knife's 9 ¼” Bowie blade is undamaged and has just light staining consistent with age. The blade is marked on one side with the manufacturer’s name and address (illustrated). It has attractive Stag antler scales which are in great condition secured by German silver pins. It has a folding brass cross guard. One scale has a German Silver button which, when pressed releases the blade to open to its full length. When fully extended the knife measures 14 ¼” overall. A steel lever on the grip frame releases the blade for closing. The knife is complete with original open top brown leather scabbard which has an integral single leather belt loop riveted to the rear of the throat. The rear body of the scabbard has a small 1.5cm cut to one side of the seam which is stable and does not detract from its attractiveness. The price includes UK Delivery. Sn 18034
