It is a variant of the Soviet-designed AK-47 (specifically Type 3) and AKM rifles (with folding stock). Production started in 1956 at Chinese State Factory 66. During the Cold War period, the Type-56 was exported to many countries and guerrilla forces throughout the world. Many of these rifles found their way to battlefields in Africa, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East and were used alongside other Kalashnikov pattern weapons from both the Soviet Union as well the Warsaw Pact nations of Eastern Europe. Chinese support for the Democratic Republic of Vietnam before the mid-1960s meant that the Type-56 was frequently encountered by American soldiers in the hands of either Vietcong guerrillas or PAVN soldiers during the Vietnam war. The Type-56 was discovered far more often than the original Russian-made AK-47s or AKMs. This is an excellent Chinese Type 56 with folding stock. It is serial number 17108605 and has 21571 on the breech. The wood work and metal work of this weapon are undamaged with original finish and just knocks, bumps and bruises to be expected. It has the correct shrouded fore sight, adjustable rear sight, cleaning rod, forward sling bar and rear sling swivel fitted with webbing sling. The frame has the triangle with 66 mark of the Chinese State factory 66, 56 model designation and Chinese script characters. It has a folding skeleton stock which operates as it should. Deactivated to UK specification in 2015 the weapon has no moving firing mechanism parts but the magazine release lever works as it should allowing the magazine to be removed. The magazine’s loading plate and spring are present and function as they should. The price includes deactivation certificate and UK delivery. Sn 18673:7
