QUALITY, Complete British George V Court Uniform With Bi Corn Hat, Court Dress Sword, Officer’s Service Sword Cord & Portepee, Scabbards & Covers In Transit Locker To ‘Sir George J. Cockburn’ With 18th June 1910 Dated Copy Of Downing Street Letter. - 14597

This is a quality George V era Court dress uniform with court sword, Infantry Officer’s service sword with scabbards and transit covers . The silk lined, dress tail coat and waist coat in rich navy blue velvet retain all of their original ornate buttons (most wrapped and protected by original tissue paper). The coat and waistcoat are approx. UK size 36” chest. The coat has a nice label ‘Edeson & Ravenscroft 93 & 94 Chancery Lane,London’ (illustrated). The navy blue silk lined velvet trousers have their original ornate leg buckles protected by original tissue paper. The trousers are approx. UK size 38” waist & are knee length with button fly. The gentleman’s original silk stockings, 2 pairs of small size Chamois leather gloves, handkerchief and cased ornate shoe buckles are also present. The buckle’s case has a nice Edeson & Ravenscroft trade stamp. One glove has a manufacturer stamp ‘Prinz Belgium’. The bicorn hat is in near mint condition with braid sweatband and padded lining is matching manufacturer marked. The hat has a black rosette and ornate steel cockade chain hanger. It is approx. UK size 6. None of the pieces have any mothing. The court sword is near mint and has etched panels. The ricasso is marked by the same manufacturer . The leather scabbard with ornate fittings is in similar mint condition. The sword is accompanied by its original oil cloth transit cover. The Infantry Officer’s service sword has etched Kings Crown etched and is marked by the manufacturer ‘Hobson & Sons London’ and has ordnance acceptance inlaid roundel. It is also numbered ‘1360. B’ which may assist identification of its date of manufacture. The hilt with voided guard and kings crown is fitted with original leather cord and acorn portepee. The sword has its original scabbard with leather field combat cover and oil cloth transit cover. All of the pieces are contained in their original japanned transit locker which has a hinged lid, bolt fasteners and carry handle. The tin is undamaged and has an internal outfitters label (illustrated). The top of the locker has a brass plate engraved ‘Sir George J. Cockburn’. The tin has hinged carry handles , sliding bolt fasteners and lock with 2 keys. Accompanying this collection is a photocopy of the Downing Street, Knighthood Notification Letter to G.J. Cockburn Esq dated 18th June 1910 signed by Herbert Henry Asquith Liberal Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1908 to 1916 and a copy of the envelope cover which contained the letter addressed to North Grange Road, Headingly, Leeds.
