This is an original C1900 Alex Coppell (Alcoso), Solingen, Prussian Cavalry Officer's dress sword (see page 119 of World Swords by Withers). The sword has crossed sabres Cavalry insignia on a foliate background on the langet and a plain reverse langet. It has an undamaged wire bound grip. The wire is tight and intact. The flat knuckle bow, hilt back strap and pommel are adorned with intricate decoration and it has a finely detailed Lion’s head pommel with red ‘jewelled’ eyes inset. The cross guard finial is ‘Puma’s head’ form. The sabre measures 35 ¼” overall and the ricasso of its 30 ¼” single edged, curved blade with fullers is stamped with the Coppell, Solingen makers ‘ACS with scales’ trademark (partially obscured by the langet). The blade has small areas of staining consistent with age & is fitted with original leather hilt washer. The sabre is complete with its original black painted steel scabbard with single steel hanging ring, fixed hanging bar and shoe. The scabbard has no dents. The price includes UK delivery. Sn 15612
