This rare early bayonet in in remarkably good condition. They were origionally issued to the Royal Navy for use with the Naval Muzzle Loading Enfield Rifle.
Only in service for about 20 years they were eventually replaced by a lighter pattern for the newer Martini Henry rifles. The blade is entirely free of any pitting, with a few marks. The wide hilt has a beautiful all over patina that shows the age of the piece. The compressed leather handle scales have a small amount of damage on one side. However they are still firmly attached and in overall good condition. The release button is free and moves easily.
