    DEACTIVATED INERT Unfired British WW2, 1943 Dated PIAT Mark 2 (Projector Infantry, Anti-Tank) Hollow Charge Projectile, Sn O 1067 - O 1067

DEACTIVATED INERT British WW2 dated, 1943 unfired PIAT Mark 2 (Projector, Infantry, Anti-Tank) hollow charge projectile that was a British man-portable anti-tank weapon developed during the Second World War. It was designed in 1942 in response to the British Army's need for a more effective infantry anti-tank weapon, and entered service in 1943.The PIAT was based on the spigot mortar system, that launched a 2.5 pound (1.1 kg) bomb using a powerful spring and a cartridge in the tail of the projectile. It possessed an effective range of approximately 115 yards in a direct fire anti-tank role, and 350 yards (320 m)[3] in an indirect fire 'house-breaking' role. The PIAT was first used during the Allied invasion of Sicily in 1943. This projectile is in superb and complete condition retaining most of its original colour and stenciling. The projectile retains most of its original dark green colour with a ring of 8 red crosses and dashes to the hollow charge cone. The body has a 20mm light green band round it denoting an amatol filling with a white stencil 808 on it. Below this on the body is black stenciling I.C.I./0/FHE and opposite is 12/43 over LOT over 94 . The spigot tube is stenciled in black MK11 . The alloy nose fuse is retained by a pressed steel bayonet cap. Clipped to the base of the fins is the very rare nose fuse container which consists of a two piece alloy container clipped to a spring steel clip. No licence is required to possess this round in the UK if retained as part of a collection or display. The price includes UK delivery. Sn O 1067
