WW1 Death Plaque To Chief Engineer Emerson Ruddock Salkeld Who Died Following The Sinking Of His Ship, The SS Nevisbrook By A U-boat Off Fastnet, Ireland in 1917. M 118 - M 118

This is a WW1 Death Plaque to Chief Engineer Emerson Ruddock Salkeld of South Shields, the seagoing Chief Engineer on the SS Nevisbrook a cargo steamer of 3140 tons built in 1913. Mr Salkeld died aged 45 years at Doctor Martins house in Jesmond on the 23rd August 1917 as a result of blood poisoning after being torpedoed by a U boat 90 miles West of Fastnet off the Irish coast on the 20th July 1917.
