A rare Diana Model 116 shooting kit originally retailed by Empire Stores,Bradford, Yorkshire and containing a Diana/Milbro UK manufactured model 16 .177 Calibre Air Rifle.
The rifle with this kit was made in November 1953 but the shooting kit we believe was retailed in the early 1960’s its possible that the original rifle has long since gone and the one supplied is a replacement or maybe it was old stock from the Milbro factory and used for a sales drive to move excess stock.
The rifle is in average condition complete with its correct sights and cocks and fires with no issues.
It’s the packaging that makes this interesting and collectable. The inner box is wooden and overlaid with printed paper graphics depicting two youths shooting a Diana Air Pistol and Air Rifle definitely reminiscent of a bygone era. It details the ‘Junior Safety Shooting Outfit Mark 116’ and what was contained in the kit ‘Air Gun – Darts- Pellets – Target Holder -Targets’ There are some Targets some Milbro Pellets and an instruction leaflet. The target holder is missing as are the darts. The inner box is in good condition considering its age and the graphics are bright and clear. The outer cardboard sleeve has been repaired at one end where its looks to have been ripped open, perhaps by an excited youth on Christmas day or maybe on a Birthday, it does show that it was posted out from Empire Stores. These kits were obviously supplied mail order as were many airguns in those days.
A rare example of this shooting kit dating to the 1960’s and a great addition to any collection of Airgun memorabilia.Read more
