~ Early 14th Century Wakizashi By Uda Kunimitsu ~
Here we have an absolutely exquisite short katana or long wakizashi that was made in the first half of the 14th century by renowned smith Uda Kunimitsu.
This appears to be a pre standard military wakizashi carried by the Samurai class and it is in beautiful shape and is one of the very few that I have seen that is close to pristine condition. Everything from the lacquer to the blade to the organic wrapping components is in excellent shape, truly this is a piece to be the jewel of any collection.
The sword is mounted with black iron and gilt fittings with a beautiful black lacquered scabbard with a black binding grip wrap over bronze menuki.
The iron tsuba has a scene I believe is meant to depict a horizon.
The kogatana (small knife in the sheath) is decorated with a gilt shrimp.
Overall an absolutely beautiful sword in wonderful shape.

The sword is 29 inches (93 cm) long.
