Early 19th Century 28 Bore Boxlock Percussion Pistol

~ Early 19th Century 28 Bore Boxlock Percussion Pistol ~

Here we have a very nice piece, a percussion cap pocket pistol with a large bore barrel a somewhat unusual combination with many pocket pistols, most of them being made with smaller calibre bullets in mind, this one has been chambered for a ball equal to a 28 bore, what would be considered a smaller ‘man stopper’ bullet.

The pistols grip is made from a European hardwood, most probably walnut. The barrel and metalwork is all brushed iron. There seems to be the remains of a Birmingham proofmark (an ‘S’) on the left side of the barrel.

The hammer and nipple are in good condition with good tension on the spring.

The barrel is held to the furniture by screws and nails.

~ Dimensions ~

The pistol is 7.25 inches (8.5 cm) long.

The barrel is 4.25 (11 cm) long.

The pistol weighs 220g.

~ Condition ~

The pistol is in brilliant condition for its age.

The firing mechanism works well.

The wood has a nice aged finish.
