~ Early 19th Century Civilian Katana ~
Here we have an absolutely exquisite katana that was made in the first half of the 19th century.
This appears to be a pre standard military katana carried by the Samurai class and it is in beautiful shape and is one of the very few that I have seen that is close to pristine condition. Everything from the lacquer to the blade to the organic wrapping components is in excellent shape, truly this is a piece to be the jewel of any collection.
The sword is mounted with black iron and gilt fittings with a beautiful maroon lacquered scabbard with a blue/grey binding wrap around the scabbard and around a large noduled white shagreen.
The blade is slightly curved with a very acute point, the blade has a gunome hamon which is a hamon with very sharply rising and falling peaks a bit like the profile of a saw.
The iron tsuba has a beautiful array of flowing vines and flowers with gilt accents.
Overall an absolutely beautiful sword in wonderful shape.
