~ Early 20th Century Burmese Dah (Dha) Short Sword ~

Dha (also spelled dah or dhaw) is the Burmese word for "knife." The term dha is conventionally used refer to a wide variety of knives and swords used by many people across Indochina, especially present-day Myanmar (Burma), Thailand, Yunnan, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam.

This dha has a round section grip with a conical pommel, a long, gently upward curving blade with a single edge and a guard that barely exceeds the diameter of the handle and it can be regarded more as a spacer.

The blade is inscribed on both sides and with floral inlays and two different scenes (one for each side) representing two almost Buddhist figures.

The hilt and the scabbard are made of wood wrapped in white metal i.e. probably low grade silver secured with metal bands.

~ Dimensions ~

The blade length is 29.5 cm (11.6 inches) and the overall length of the Dah is 51 cm (20.1 inches).

The Dah and scabbard total length is 52 cm (20.5 inches).

It weighs 570 grams.

~ Condition ~

The Dah is in overall very good condition with minor wear. The blade is clear of rust or chips.

~ Postage ~
