Scarce British L1A1/L1A3 Bayonet By Enfield and Scabbard. ED 2081 - ED 2081
This is an L1A1 bayonet made at Enfield in 1957 and converted to L1A3 specification. Most of the L1A1 bayonets were converted from 1957 onwards due to the original protruding stud making it easy to remove the bayonet from the rifle by rioters etc. The long stud was removed and a recess milled in the pommel and a shorter stud fitted. The original grips were usually replaced but this example has the original grips with the L1A1 designation "L1A1 960-0011" lightly deleted and the new designation of "L1A3/0257" stamped on the end of the pommel. (see Skennerton page 260, last two paragraphs). This is a scarce variation not often encountered on the collectors market. The blade has the original long fullers and is stamped with the War Department 'Broad Arrow' and "57D" denoting manufacture at Enfield in 1957. The grips also carry the 'Broad Arrow' and "D" marks. The scabbard is the standard No 5 MK 2 and is free from dents. The price includes UK delivery. ED 2081
