ENGLISH FLINTLOCK BLUNDERBUSS WITH SPRING BAYONET
by J G JONES LONDON c 1790
Excellent condition with strong bayonet action. Clean Steel barrel stamped LONDON on top with PROOF Marks,
Crisp perfect Action (could fire!?) engraved J G JONES, fitted with a Roller Frizzen and Safety Catch which indicates a higher quality maker. ORIGINAL brass tipped Ramrod.
I have traced the following information on a maker that could fit by location and year.
J. JONES GUNMAKER Dates: 1776-1826
Apprenticed to Richard Welford in 1776, he was a Freeman of the Gunmakers Company in 1783 when he was also recorded "at Mr Coopers facing the Chapter Coffee House at St Katherines". In 1785 he was working for the Hudson's Bay Company at Severn River, from 1786 to 1793 he was working for them at York Fort. By 1814 he was trading as a gunmaker at Manor Row, Tower Hill.
There were also J JONES Makers:-
Apprenticed to Henry NOCK c.1791
Registered at SMALL GUN OFFICE, Tower of London c.1779
A true classic Obsolete Calibre Antique, no licence required.
I have owned this for over 30 years, selling off my collection to fund a Classic Car. This is the best priced Blunderbuss of this quality that you will find.
