The 11mm Mauser Model 1871/84 Rifle with tube magazine was adopted as the Infanterie-Gewehr 71/84. The rifle was designed and manufactured by Paul Mauser and Wilhelm Mauser of the Mauser Arms Company. It was issued to Infantry & Mounted Infantry Regiments. This is a good original example of the Mauser M1871/84. Its all original woodwork has just the bumps and bruises to be expected with age and service use. The metalwork is undamaged with patina and staining consistent with age and service use. It has a flip up ladder rear sight, block & blade foresight, bayonet lug, steel butt plate and sling swivels. The barrel’s rifled bore has staining and residue consistent with age & use. The breech is marked 'Erfurt' with Crown & Imperial proof/ inspection marks together with 1886 date. The barrel and breech are numbered ‘4325’. The breech is also marked with model designation ‘I.G. Mod 71/84’. The bolt is numbered ‘3744’. The bolt action and firing mechanism work as they should.
