The Springfield Model 1861 was a Minié ball type rifled musket shoulder-arm used by the United States Army and Marine Corps during the American Civil War. Commonly referred to as the "Springfield" (after its original place of production, Springfield, Massachusetts), it was the most widely used U.S. Army weapon during the Civil War, favoured for its range, accuracy, and reliability. It was in service between 1861 and 1872.The rifles were also used during the American Indian Wars. The Springfield lives on today in quality firearms produced by the Italian company 'Euro Arms Of America' This is a near mint deactivated Euro Arms made Springfield percussion rifle. It has lovely undamaged wood full stock and clean, bright untarnished metal. It measures 56" overall with a 39" barrel. The weapon is fitted with blade fore sight, graduated flip up 2 plate rear sight, heavy military hammer, steel butt plate, sling swivels and ram rod. The side plate is crisply marked with the American Eagle and '1861 U.S. Springfield'. The weapon has manufacturer inspection marks and the barrel is stamped ' Euro Arms Of America'.
