An extremely rare, original Imperial German Navy Marines (Dienstmesser Des Kaiserlichen Deutschen Marine) Fighting Knife (see page 7 of German Combat Knives By Mery). The knife has a clean 4 ½” blade. It has an overall length of 10”. The grip is chequered wood with typical long brass ferrule, lanyard ring lug fitted with lanyard ring and void riveted brass plate. The rear of the grip has its original riveted leather tab with eyelet that fastens to a brass stud on the original brass scabbards belt bar. The blade is stamped by the maker F.R Everts W. Haven (Wilhemshaven Naval Dockyards lower Saxony). Its original brass scabbard is fitted with leather frog. The rear seam of the frog’s belt loop is open indicating that it may be a captured or surrendered weapon taken from the belt of a German marine.
