Virtually every army that used machine guns had some form of clinometer or angle of sight instrument in use by 1914, these sights led to the design of the MKII Clinometer introduced by Loc A-7266 of 9th September 1930(see pages 511 & 512 of The Grand Old Lady of No Mans Land by Goldsmith). This is an original Vickers Heavy Machine Gun Clinometer Sight MK II in its original case. The sight has the correct steel and brass construction with calibrated dial and spirit level. The sight has the correct model designation stamp with ‘Aust’ (Australian) ‘F. Tough’ manufacturer detail, WD marks and 1943 date (illustrated). The sight functions as it should. It is contained in its original leather case with hinged lid, The cases’ buckle is absent but its fastening strap is present . The sides of the case have small leather riveted strap loops. The rear of the case is impressed with model designation & manufacturer detail together with 1944 date. The inside of the case has storage instruction impressed into the leather (illustrated).
